Chain Pharmacy Consumer Tech Case Study

Challenge

A leading U.S. pharmacy chain sought to improve its ability to sell new health and medical consumer technology products to retail customers, given its existing infrastructure and resources.

Objective

We were tasked with identifying key areas of opportunities, concerns, and roadblocks to an investment in upcoming consumer technology medical products. In addition, we were asked to reach out to corporate leadership with the results of our surveys, and make recommendations for proceeding with a planning phase for test stores.

Engagement

Upon surveying relevant stakeholders and garnering baseline data, we began by:

  • Grouping different tech products and their needs for displaying and selling in-store
  • Creating a comprehensive list all in-store resource needs to begin showing tech products in-store and power rank them based upon cost and benefit and speed
  • Generating a plan for “High Tech Showcase” days, at corporate HQ, to both educate corporate staff and demonstrate different solutions to achieve in-store display demos to consumers
  • Recruiting and aligning multiple tech vendors for showcasing at HQ

Delivery

  • Held a first ever company showcase open to all employees, including those stores local to HQ
  • Facilitated and assisted setup of the different tech vendors
  • Led company leadership groups through each of the technology kiosks
  • Using small group activities, held leadership, IT, and buying group working sessions
  • Produced a power ranked list of the in-store technologies and enabled tech products which had the team’s best support
  • Created a post-showcase cost benefit analysis adding in store employee training and headcount costs to implement the top power ranked outcomes

Result

The client has integrated medical-facing consumer technologies in most regions throughout the U.S.
